Businesses and farms across the UK have embraced solar PV generation over the last 10 years, to help their green credentials and lower utility costs to the business.

These systems are theoretically “self-cleaning”, however there is a limit to the effectiveness of this, especially in high traffic or production areas such as farms , processing plants and warehouses.

To maximise the production and efficiency of PV owners need to undertake regular and thorough cleaning, to keep on top of general dirt and dust build up, which can reduce production capabilities by an average of 10% before the panels even look to be dirty.

Lichen, moss and any large thick contamination on the solar panels produce shading, which overheats the cells beneath and burn them out, reducing the capacity and efficiency of the whole string. These deposits and infestations need to be tackled and treated before they become a big problem to tackle, or cause irreversible damage to the system.
